What is the difference between Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland?

They are the German and Czech halves of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Saxon Switzerland has the Bastei, Königstein Fortress and the Schrammsteine; Bohemian Switzerland has the Pravčická brána arch and the Hřensko gorges.

What is Pravčická brána?

It is a large natural sandstone arch in Bohemian Switzerland, often described as the largest in Europe. You reach it by a walk of roughly an hour from near Hřensko, and there is an entry fee to the viewing area.

Can I see both in one day?

Yes. Many day trips from Prague and Dresden combine the Bastei with one Czech highlight. Doing both on your own is possible but takes careful planning with public transport.

What are the Hřensko gorge boat rides?

In the gorges of the Kamenice river near Hřensko, short ferry rides carry visitors along flooded sections between walking trails. They run seasonally, usually spring to autumn.

Which side is better for hiking?

Both are excellent. The Malerweg (Painters’ Way) is the best-known long trail on the German side; the Czech side has quieter forest trails and the Gabrielina stezka.
